Mary Karen Sorobit is a Kenyan advocate who was appointed as a commissioner of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
She was sworn into office alongside six other commissioners on July 11, 2025.
The newly appointed team also includes Erastus Edung Ethekon as IEBC Chairperson, along with Ann Njeri Nderitu, Moses Alutalala Mukhwana, Hassan Noor Hassan, Francis Odhiambo Aduol, and Fahima Araphat Abdallah as commissioners.
Sorobit appeared before the IEBC selection panel for her interview on April 14, 2025.
Education Background
She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Nairobi, which she obtained in 1994.
She also holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, which she earned in 1995.
Career Background
In addition to serving as an IEBC commissioner, she has been practising law at Robson Harris & Co. Advocates since 2023.
Between 2017 and 2021, she served as the Deputy Executive Director and Director of the Jubilee Party of Kenya.
From 2012 to 2016, she worked as Assistant Counsel at the Judges and Magistrates Vetting Board.
Between 2006 and 2011, Sorobit was the Deputy Secretary/CEO in charge of Compliance and Ethics and also served as Secretary to the Advocates Disciplinary Committee at the Law Society of Kenya.
Mary also served as a member of the 2016 IEBC Selection Panel.
