Parents of a Grade 1 learner at Mihango Primary School ECD is seeking answers after their child was found dead, allegedly dumped in a dustbin.
In an interview, the mother of Chloe Masika, Hellen Atunga, the deceased child, said the unfortunate incident happened on September 27.

“They told me that they looked for Chloe, but she was nowhere to be found. Later, they discovered her in a dustbin. I asked them how Chloe ended up in that bin,” the mother narrated.
The death has left Atunga traumatized and not knowing how to move on with her life.

“I don’t know how I will move on, to accept, to know that now I have two kids,”Atunga said.
According to Atunga, the day her daughter passed away was normal, just like any other day. She had prepared her for school, and both her daughter and her sibling who are twins, were in good health.

“On September 27 on Friday, I prepared my children for school, and I usually prepare them for school. However, I have a lady that prepares them for school, so she took my children to school that Friday. Both of my children were very healthy,” Hellen recounted.
Atunga further narrated that when her helper went to pick her twins from school that Friday, she realized that one of the children was missing.

This prompted her to ask help from the teachers in searching for Chloe and it is when they found her dead in a dustbin.
“And when the girl that picks them from school was looking for Chloe, she went around asking the children, have you seen Chloe? Have you seen Chloe?” Hellen explained.
The mother of the 5-year-old child blames the school for negligence, saying this incident should not have happened when they monitored her movements.

Chloe’s death came at a time when questions have been raised over children’s safety in school.
On August 30, a family of 8-year-old Patrick Bahati was seeking justice following mysterious death of their son in Thika, Kiambu County.

Bahati, a student at Pebbles Academy, passed away on Friday, August 30, after participating in a morning cross-country run organized by the school.
The school reported that the boy collapsed near the end of the 4km course and was quickly taken to the hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
