First Lady Rachel Ruto hosted the African First Ladies dinner on Wednesday, November 22 at State House, Nairobi.
According to a dispatch from State House, Mama Rachel Ruto, hosted the dinner in honor of visiting members of the Organization of African First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD).
The visiting African First Ladies present at the dinner were the First Lady of the Republic of Namibia and the President of the Organization of Africa First Ladies for Development (OAFLAD) Monica Geingos.
Others include Rebecca Akufo-Addo, the First Lady of the Republic of Ghana, and Angeline Ndayishimiye, the First Lady of the Republic of Burundi.
First Ladies Dinner in Nairobi
Worth noting is that the first ladies and organization heads are in the country for the launch of the #WeAreEqual Campaign that is aimed at closing the gender gap in Africa.

#WeAreEqual brings together African First Ladies, partners, and allies to advance gender equity and close the gender gap across the continent.
Furthermore, the campaign spearheaded by the OAFLAD is driven under the phrase “We are equal — and always have been”.
“The First Ladies are in the country for the launch of the OAFLAD Unifying Campaign for Kenya and the 14th Anniversary of the Joyful Women Organization in Nairobi on Thursday, 23 November,” said Rachel.
According to Rachel Ruto, the first ladies are expected to grace the Joyful Women Organization’s 14th anniversary set for Thursday 23rd November 2023.
Joyful Women Organization Anniversary
The Joyful Women is a non-profit Organization that was founded in 2009 for the woman that is excluded from the financial sector but who has a desire and a need to access credit and financing.
The organization was formed by Kenya’s First lady Rachel Ruto under to basis of women being able to meet their basic needs and fulfil their potential.
Additionally, as the Organization is celebrating 14 years its mandate has been to promote Women Economic Empowerment in Kenya and beyond through financial inclusion, collective agency, voice and influence.
Rachel on Collaboration
Meanwhile Mama Rachel Ruto in her speech emphasized that the strength of Africa lies in close ties while learning from each other collectively.
“The strength of Africa lies in the ability to approach challenges collectively, learning from each other, negotiating with a unified voice, and finding fulfilment in the success of our Neighbours,” said Rachel.
Additionally, the Wednesday evening dinner saw spouses of other Kenyan government officials present.

The other guests present included Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, the spouse of the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya, Tessy Mudavadi, the spouse of the Prime Cabinet Secretary of the Republic of Kenya and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs.
Likewise, H.E. Anne Waiguru, the chair of the Council of Governors and Governor of Kirinyaga County,H.E Beatrice Elachi was among the guests present.
