First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto has challenged students to take up courses in science, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) as they will impact on the implementation of the government’s economic transformation agenda.
Mama Rachel Ruto spoke at Ole Tipis Girls High School on Tuesday, August 8 in Narok county during Thanksgiving Day.
First Lady Rachel Ruto encouraged the students to make good use of the new science laboratories as a foundation to their greatness.

She attributed rapid economic growth locally and globally to the field of technology and science and urged the students to invest in them for a good transformation.
”STEM courses are essential in today’s rapidly evolving world. These fields drive economic growth and innovation globally. Our girls and boys must be well equipped to participate in this transformative era,’ she said in her speech.
Rachel Ruto on BETA
The First lady said that the Kenya Kwanza bottom-up transformation agenda also known as (BETA) envisions science as an integral part to achieving it, stating Agriculture, Micro small and medium enterprises (MSMES), housing and settlement, healthcare, digitization, and creative economy.
”Sciences are critical pillars of our economy as envisioned in the bottom-up economic transformation agenda, also known as BETA, which focuses on Agriculture, Micro small and medium enterprises (MSMES), housing and settlement, healthcare, digitization, and creative economy,” said the First Lady.
The Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) is the Kenya Kwanza Government’s Plan that was launched towards economic turn-around and inclusive growth through a value chain approach and prioritization of low-income earners.
She also urged students to use the knowledge to solve community problems, apply science concepts to address challenges and uplift their families and communities.

In her speech, she also encouraged the students to be conservation champions in support of the National Tree Restoration Campaign, which the president launched in 2022 that targets planting 15 billion trees by 2032.
Moreover, she urged the students to plant trees equal to their age on their birthdays to contribute to environmental conservation.
First Lady, Mama Rachel Ruto was in Narok county for a lineup of events including flagging off a cleaning exercise together with Governor Patrick Ole Ntutu.
