The match between Harambee Stars and Madagascar has continued to elicit mixed reactions following Kenya’s exit from the tournament. Stars were knocked out after a 1-1 draw in extra time and a penalty shootout defeat, which saw them fail to qualify for the semi-finals.
President William Ruto joined Kenyans in congratulating the team for its performance, noting that it was the first time Kenya had reached the quarter-finals.
“We had a remarkable run. Harambee Stars have silenced doubters, lifted the spirit of a nation, and reminded us that when Kenyans play with courage, confidence, and determination, nothing is impossible,” Ruto said in statement after Kenya’s eliomination.
However, the reaction of Murang’a Seals winger Victor Haki to Harambee Stars’ loss has sparked mixed reactions online.
Kenyans React to Victor Haki Celebrating Harambee Stars Loss
In a clip that has since gone viral on social media, Haki is seen dancing in celebration as Harambee Stars captain Abud Omar consoles his teammates. One of his friends in the background can be heard joking, “Oye rada ni gani beshte yangu” (loosely translated as “What’s wrong with you, my friend?”).
The video has ignited a heated debate among Kenyans. An X user named Clemoh condemned Haki’s actions, saying, “Jealousy is the last step before you become a witch. If he can mock his own country, then his club should also be really concerned.”

Another user named Rebel Salute warned that the video could end the player’s career.
“That’s how people gamble with careers,” said Rebel Salute.
On his part, an X user Victor Mutsami added: “Victor Haki laughing at Harambee Stars’ loss is pure poverty of ambition. A Murang’a Seals player mocking the national team? That’s like spitting in the same plate you hope to eat from. If the Stars lose, you lose too, because your dream is to one day wear that jersey.”
About the Murang’a Seals Player
A user identified as “PeeDid It” suggested his reaction might stem from frustration at not being selected for the national team.
“Instead of putting more effort so he can be picked next time, he is busy mocking his colleagues who showcased their talent to the world. Silly, if you ask me. All players can’t fit in one national team, so his actions out of jealousy are misplaced.”
Others defended him, with Churchill Odhiambo commenting, “It’s just football. Nothing personal.”

Haki began his professional career with Nzoia Sugar FC, where he developed as an attacking player before attracting interest from other Premier League clubs. On 31 August 2024, he signed for Murang’a Seals FC in the Kenyan Premier League.
His most notable moment came during the 2025 FKF Cup third-place playoff, where he came off the bench to score a decisive header that secured a 1–0 victory over Mara Sugar FC at the Ulinzi Sports Complex. The win earned Murang’a Seals third place and a cash prize of KSh 750,000.
