Azimio la Umoja supporter Nuru Okanga was arrested over his remarks in a video criticizing President William Ruto.
According to a charge sheet dated November 30, Okanga was captured in a video on YouTube hurling insults at the President over his stance on the government-to-government oil deal.
The charge sheet went on to state that some of the words uttered by the Azimio supporter were abusive and intimidating.
As such, the security agencies found him culpable for publication of false information and intent to discredit the reputation of state officer.
“On the 20th day of November 2023 at an unknown place within the Republic of Kenya, jointly with others not before court, using YouTube Account/Channel Riba News published online a video captioned “NURU OKANGA ON FIRE!” the charge sheet read in part.
“…information you knew to be false and calculated to discredit the reputation of a state officer and with intend to provoke a breach of the peace,” the charge sheet added.

Okanga was on Thursday, November 30, arraigned in court to answer to the charges as stipulated in the Computer Misuse and Cybercrime law.
He was later released on a Ksh10,000 bail. His case was scheduled to come for mentioning on December 13.
Wife narrates how Nuru Okanga was arrested
On Wednesday, Okanga’s wife in an interview said that three people stormed their house in the morning while Okanga was in the bathroom, domiciled outside the house.
The three, the wife added, asked her to surrender Nuru’s clothes as they needed him dressed up.
In addition, the three persons reportedly asked for Nuru Okanga’s phones, a phone that caused a scuffle in the house as the wife initially declined to surrender her phone.
They later handcuffed Nuru and reportedly informed the wife that they were taking him to Kiambu-Road based Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters.

A man named Omosh, who is also known for his vocal anti-government sentiments on YouTube and Tik Tok videos was also present during the interview.
The news about Okanga’s arrest came barely one week since claiming that he scored 401 marks in the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education.
His name has been on the lips of many since earning fame during the anti-government protests by the Azimio Coalition and the campaigns preceding the 2022 elections.
In an interview after the release of the KCPE 2023 results, Okanga reiterated his dream of joining elective politics, stating that it was one his motivations for rejoining school.
