Kenya’s President William Ruto has called out Sudan’s military for messing up with peace and security in the country.
In an interview with CNN in New York on Friday September 27, Ruto championed for dialogue and diplomacy in solving the insecurity situation in Sudan.
“The revolution that removed dictatorship in Sudan was a people’s revolution which was hijacked by men in the military and has messed the country,” Ruto noted.
He added, “We believe that it is time the international security to look at Sudan more keenly because we are having a humanitarian disaster, especially because of the famine that is eminent,” Ruto added.
Moreover, stated that he is persuaded like many that a military solution will not come out in Sudan.
The Kenyan President is convicted that the insecurity issue in Sudan cannot be solved by talking to military men alone.
He advocated for political leaders, women, and civil society to be involved in framing out the best solution.
Further, he affirmed to the international community that Kenya is deeply invested and engaged in finding a solution by bringing together all the actors.
Ruto on Famine in Sudan
At the same time, Ruto articulated the issue of famine that is facing the country. He said that famine is going to possibly kill more people than gunshots in Sudan.
“As we speak today in Sudan, we have close to a million people who are facing starvation, we have serious security and humanitarian issues,” he reiterated.

Additionally, Ruto appreciated the United Nations (UN) on behalf of Sudan for its resolute to fund the African peace operations. A move that he hopes will give the African Union additional capacity to manage the situation in the continent including the situation in Sudan.
The President said in part, “It is our position that Sudan thanks the United Nations, now that resolution has been made and the African peace operations can now be funded and have access to contributions from the UN.”
Sudan Army Strikes
The interview with President Ruto comes just a day after the Sudan Army on Thursday 26, launched air strikes and artillery in the capital.
Reports by witnesses and military sources said that it was the biggest operation aimed at regaining ground from the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) that have taken control over the capital for about 17 months now.

Furthermore, the move by the army came after an address by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, the military commander at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Thursday.
