President William Ruto reached out to a four-year-old girl who was captured crying on camera when he announced that schools will reopen on May 13, 2024.
Ruto engaged in a heartwarming phone conversation with Tinsley Nduta Mary to explain the need for sudden reopening of schools.
In the video shared on social media, the President begins the conversation by introducing himself and sending Mother’s Day wishes to Tinsley’s mother.
“Can I speak to Mama Tinsley, habari yako mum and happy Mother’s Day. My name is William Ruto. I am happy to talk to you, I have been looking for you,” Ruto said.
“I saw a beautiful lady there complaining about the reopening of schools, so I decided to look for her so that I try explaining why we have to reopen schools.”
Ruto-Tinsley Phone Conversation
As the phone call progresses, President Ruto requests to talk Tinsley regarding the reopening of schools. Just like with her mum, the head of state introduced himself and started the conversations by inquiring whether the little girl went to Church.
“My name is William, do you know that you are going to school tomorrow,” the president asked.
Tinsley asked the president why the government reopened schools stating she wasn’t prepared to resume learning.

The President told Tinsley that the Constitution grants all Kenyans the right to education and compels parents to take their children to school.
Additionally, he told Tinsley that school is the only way she can acquire knowledge, learn new things and subjects that will help her in future.
“So that you know what you need to be in the future it’s good to go to school. You will know how to read, write and learn subjects that are important for your development in the future,” the President said.
“Just like your mother and me, we have gone to school so that we can do the things we do at the moment.”
The Sudden Reopening
He told Tinsley about the Kenya Meteorological Department predictions that the rains will reduce hence schools can reopen.
“Yes, I had said that schools will not open until further notice but now because the weathermen have told us the rains have now subsided so we can now go to school. I am asking you tomorrow to prepare so that you can go to school,” he said.
Tinsley also asked the president to meet her up this coming Friday and Ruto promised to create time for that.
