President William Ruto on Sunday, November 8, unveiled a Ksh5.1 billion development package for the Gusii region, pledging major investments in healthcare, education, markets and infrastructure during an interdenominational church service at Nyamaiya Stadium in Nyamira County.
The President announced Ksh1.7 billion for the construction of a Level 5 hospital in Nyamira County and a similar Ksh1.7 billion allocation for Kisii Hospital.
The two projects alone account for Ksh3.4 billion and are expected to improve access to specialised treatment, reduce referrals to hospitals outside the region and strengthen healthcare services for residents of both Nyamira and Kisii counties.

Ruto said the government is committed to ensuring citizens receive quality health services closer to home, noting that improved medical facilities remain a key pillar of his administration’s development agenda.
“We want every Kenyan to access quality healthcare services close to home. That is why we are investing heavily in hospitals across the country because improving healthcare remains one of the key pillars of our development agenda,” Ruto said.
The President also announced an ambitious plan to construct 10 new markets across Nyamira County to boost trade and create greater opportunities for small-scale traders and farmers.

To support the markets, the government has set aside Ksh150 million for the development of infrastructure and common-user facilities aimed at improving business operations and attracting more investment in the county.
The market projects are expected to benefit thousands of traders who have long called for modern trading spaces equipped with essential amenities.
In the education sector, Ruto committed Ksh500 million towards a university project in the region as part of efforts to expand access to higher education and increase opportunities for young people.
He also announced Ksh200 million for the construction of university hostels, saying adequate accommodation remains critical to supporting students and improving learning conditions.
The President stated that the combined Ksh700 million investment has been pushed forward to him and is being led by Education CS Julius Migosi Ogamba, who also comes from the Gusii region.
Beyond healthcare and education, the President highlighted ongoing road infrastructure projects, pointing to the Nyamaiya Road as a key government investment to improve connectivity and support economic activity.
He said better roads would ease the movement of people and goods, lower transport costs and open up more opportunities for trade and investment in the Gusii region.
Ruto also made direct financial pledges to local institutions during the service.
Nyamasakwa received Ksh5 million for the purchase of a new bus, while Nyamaiya School was allocated Ksh10 million to acquire a school bus.
Leaders Support Ruto’s Re-election
The event also turned into a political rally, with leaders allied to the President urging residents to back his development agenda and support his bid for a second term.

Among those who spoke were Simba Arati, Education Cabinet Secretary Migosi Ogamba, and HELB Chief Executive Officer Geoffrey Monari, all of whom praised the government’s development record in the region and rallied support for President Ruto’s re-election bid.
The leaders repeatedly chanted the “Tutam” slogan, arguing that the administration deserved more time to complete ongoing projects and deliver on its promises to the country.
Ruto used the occasion to hit out at opposition leaders, accusing them of lacking a development agenda and offering no solutions to the country’s challenges.
“Those criticising us have no plan for this country. They do not even know how to build a road. As they engage in politics, we are focused on development and transforming the lives of Kenyans,” the President said.
