President William Ruto has explained why he settled for Rigathi Gachagua as his Deputy during the 2022 elections.
While attending the Akurino National Prayers Conference in Nakuru on Sunday, June 9, Ruto revealed that he selected Rigathi Gachagua because they are agemates.
Ruto also mentioned other candidates, who were younger individuals, had been proposed by Members of Parliament.
“You know, when we were planning here and there, I called the MPs and asked them, ‘Do you see that we have planned well?’ I then told them to find people who can fill the position of the deputy president,'” Ruto said.
“They directed me to the youth and pampered praises that a certain young man is good and hardworking. But I told them, “No, let me plan with Riggy G because he is my age mate, and we can work together to move things forward.”
The President affirmed his assurance by stating that the youth now hold senior positions in government.

“Today I have hardworking youths in the parliamentarian committees, doing a great job and I am happy about them,” he said.
“We have a youth from Molo, Kimani Kuria who is the Chairman of the Finance committee and I have another one MP Ndindi Nyoro as the chairman of the Budget Committees.”
The Head of state further stated that his aim is to ensure that the country has better leaders in the future through mentorship.
He also criticized leaders in Nakuru County who were against him and Rigathi Gachagua and trying to divide them.
“Let’s not engage in meaningless words that divide people. Let’s unite, cooperate, maintain peace, and not allow those who were trying to divide us here. They were saying that if you elect this Ruto and Riggy G, there will be problems but there is peace in Nakuru.”
Ruto urged leaders to respect each other and urged them not to forget where they have come from and not to have any worries.
This comes after DP Gachagua has faced criticisms in recent weeks by a section of leaders of the UDA party with raging storm in Mt Kenya counties.
Gachagua on June 8 called on Kenya Kwanza leaders to abandon divisive politics and focus on supporting President William Ruto in delivering on his promises to Kenyans.
