President William Ruto has clarified that he will not force the affiliate parties in Kenya Kwanza Alliance to join his United Democratic Alliance (UDA).
Speaking during the UDA National Governing Council (NGC) the president said he was against some party’s officials who have made it look mandatory that the other political parties to join the ruling party.
President Ruto said the party will need the permission of UDA members to engage with the parties that supported them in the 2022 elections.
“We will discuss the way forward and there are those who will decide to join us while the others will decide other ways, we will collaborate with them.

We cannot be dictators and tell them this is what you must do. I have heard some of us saying that they must do this, we cannot use the word ‘must’. You just say it would be good if you could have joined us, but we cannot say it is a must,” said Ruto.
However, President Ruto stated that they will discuss with the parties in Kenya Kwanza and convince them to join UDA.
“We will talk with them and those who agree will join us so that we can work together and form one big national party,” he said.
Additionally, he said UDA will find a mechanism of relating with the parties who will be opposed to the dissolution idea.

Ruto on Creation of UDA National Party
Moreover, President Ruto explained that he is dedicated to building UDA into a strong and vibrant party.
“I am looking forward to members of the party in every county making contributions, buying a plot of land and our offices. We will work together so that we build a solid foundation and eliminate tribalism from Kenyan politics,” he said.
Furthermore, the president said that UDA party was not just created to win the elections but also to bring the country together.
President Ruto said his goal is to build a national party based on ideology and not tribalism which has negatively affected the development of the nation.
“We have been divided by ethnic parties for many years, and this has brought us a lot of great losses. I am a great believer in a strong national party and that is what I want to persuade you to do,” added Ruto.
In addition, Ruto said the party will be free for all the members to contribute and make corrections in the operations of UDA.
Malala’s Sentiments
On Sunday, September 24, Malala called out National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula and Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi over their continued calls for Luhya unity.
Speaking in Bungoma County, Malala said the calls are hypocritical, adding that the leaders had refused to join hands and support UDA.
According to him, leaders from the region have failed to forge a united front over the years despite the perennial calls for unity.
