President William Ruto will host heads of state and government officials for a five-day summit of the African Development Bank (AfDB) annual meeting, which will be held from May 27th to 30th at the Kenyatta International Conference Center (KICC) in Nairobi.
In a statement, AfDB said the event will build consensus around the critical role of regional integration in Africa’s economic recovery.
“The knowledge events will also address the importance of a reconfigured global financial architecture as an engine for structural transformation, and the Bank Group’s contribution towards Africa’s socio-economic transformation in its 60 years of existence,” the statement read.
Among the speakers confirmed for the meeting include Presidents Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Felix Tshisekedi of DR Congo, Emmerson Mnangagwa of Zimbabwe, and Ghanaian President Nana Addo Akufo-Addo.
However, reports indicate that more than 28 heads of state will attend the meeting alongside other top government officials from across the globe.
Ruto to Host Other Dignitaries
The discussion will feature the President of AfDB Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, president and Group Managing Director of the Trade and Development Bank (TDB) Admassu Tadesse, the president of Islamic Development Bank Muhammad Al Jasser and CEO of Global Center on Adaptation Patrick Verkooijen.
Parliamentary State Secretary and Governor for Germany Dr Bärbel Kofler, CEO Africa50 Alain Ebobisse and Director General, Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA) Dr. Sidi Ould Tah are also part of the speakers.
Other notable speakers include Assistant Secretary for International Markets and Development, U.S. Treasury Alexia Latortue, CEO of the Development Bank of Southern Africa Boitumelo Mosako, State Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Norway Bjørg Sandkjær and Kenya’s Treasury CS Prof Njunguna Ndung’u.

Theme & Areas of Focus
Themed Africa’s Transformation, African Development Bank Group, and Reform of the Global Financial Architecture’, the meeting will comprise the 59th Annual Assembly of the AfDB and the 50th meeting of the African Development Fund
Additionally, participants will share and learn about resource mobilization initiatives.
The meeting is also expected to enhance cooperation around the approved joint action plan and the newly created cooperation platform, facilitating streamlined efforts and shared strategies among the various institutions.
This plan was proposed to improve coordination on large-scale initiatives and flagship programs, including investments in regional corridors, and advocacy support for the AfDB’s 17th replenishment.

Also, the cooperation platform is intended to facilitate structured informal exchanges between African DFIs and regional and continental institutions.
Its objective is to explore options to mobilize capital for regional investments and deeper integration.
The meeting will review the proposed joint action plan and terms of reference for the cooperation platform, discussing ways to improve coordination and synergies on flagship programs and projects pivotal to regional integration.
This meeting builds on the first two editions organized during the Bank’s Annual Meetings held in Accra, Ghana, in 2022 and Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt, in 2023. It also follows a recent technical meeting held in Abidjan late last month.
