Nairobi Senator Johnson Sakaja has broken his silence after he was criticised by netizens for putting up billboards along various highways welcoming Nairobians back to the city.
The billboards were on Wednesday, January 4 spotted along Waiyaki Way, Thika Super Highway and Mombasa Road.
The Nairobi Governor and his deputy Njoroge Muchiri wished Nairobians coming back from upcountry following a long Christmas holiday, a prosperous New Year.
“Welcome back, Prosperous 2023! Let’s make Nairobi work,” the billboard read.
On Thursday, Sakaja responded to @WachiraKE a Twitter user who tweeted, “Lakini @SakajaJohnson even as we continue supporting you, just stop those cheap PR stunts. I hope you used your own money to pay for those “Welcome Back” billboards. Just do what you were elected to do, which is to fix Nairobi. PR na vipindiree achia Sonko.”
In his response, the Governor tweeted, “Yes I used my own money. You may not like it, but many appreciate it.”
