At least 10 people have been killed and 32 others injured in the past 24 hours as Russian forces unleashed a wave of aerial and artillery attacks across several Ukrainian regions, regional officials and Ukraine’s Air Force reported on May 31.
Ukrainian air defences intercepted 69 Shahed drones and three Kh-59/69 guided missiles using a combination of air defence systems, electronic warfare, and mobile fire teams.
In Kharkiv Oblast, Governor Oleh Syniehubov confirmed that six people were injured following strikes on Kharkiv and nine surrounding settlements.
The region came under heavy assault involving 26 Shahed drones, 11 unguided rockets, and guided aerial bombs, resulting in significant damage to civilian infrastructure.
In Kherson Oblast, Governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported that three people were killed and 10 others injured as more than 30 towns and villages were targeted by drones, artillery, and airstrikes.
Effects of the Russian attack on Ukraine
The attacks damaged critical and residential infrastructure, including a private home, a gas pipeline, garages, and vehicles.
Zaporizhzhia Oblast Governor Ivan Fedorov said a child was killed and another injured in Dolynka village.
Russian forces carried out 628 strikes across 24 settlements in the region, including 40 airstrikes, 376 FPV drone attacks, and 205 artillery strikes.
Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Governor, Serhii Lysak, reported that two people were injured in the Nikopol area. The attacks involved artillery fire, FPV drones, and munitions dropped from drones.

Sumy Oblast officials said one person who had been injured earlier succumbed to their wounds in the hospital, bringing the civilian death toll in the region to at least one.
More than 160 strikes hit 39 settlements in 16 communities, with weapons used including air-dropped bombs, multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS), and drone-dropped explosive devices.
Donetsk Oblast Governor Vadym Filashkin reported five civilian deaths and nine injuries in the past day. These figures do not include casualties from the occupied cities of Mariupol and Volnovakha.
Previous Ukrainian defence boost against Russia
This comes after Ukraine previously announced boosting its defence in response to record-breaking Russian aerial assaults.

In an evening address on May 26, Zelensky stated that he had instructed an expansion of Ukraine’s drone production and authorised the use of more partner funding to support the initiative.
“I instructed a significant increase in the production of our interceptor drones, and we will be engaging more funding from our partners to support this,” Zelensky said.
He also revealed that specific funds had been allocated to accelerate the country’s ballistic missile programme.
