A school bus ferrying several school staff from a colleague’s burial was involved in an accident at Taita Taveta County leaving several feared dead.
The school bus belonging to Memon Academy was involved in the accident, which happened in Taita at Joska’s black spot.
Reports state that the teachers were on their way back to Mombasa from Wundanyi where they went to bury their colleague.
Moreover, a statement by Nasserpuria Memon Jamat and Memon Education Board confirmed the accident had ‘claimed the lives of some of the teachers’, leaving others severely injured.
“We wish to convey to the bereaved families, the school fraternity and the entire community heartfelt sympathies and condolences. This is not only a loss to the school but to the entire community and nation. A teacher’s promise and potential can never be measured. “This is an immense loss for generations to come,” read the statement.

“Whilst this is a very unfortunate and heartbreaking incident to befall us, it is during such difficult and trying times that we need to show our unwavering support toward each other. May we ask the entire school fraternity and all members of the Jamat to join us in praying for the families of the victims, relatives, and friends for God to grant them peace, solace, and comfort,” the statement adds.
The number of deceased from the accident remains unclear.
