Activist Hanifa Safia Farsafi, who has been one of the youth mobilizing resources towards the course, stated the initiative was a success.
She has revealed that Ksh2,872, 352 has been sent to the families of Rex Masai and Evans Kiratu who died as a result of wounds sustained during the riots.
Further, Hanifa shared screengrabs of the transactions revealing a Khs127,000 transaction fee which caused uproar online.

“Hello guys. Remember Rex and Evan’s? The first victims of this cruel regime. We have sent one million each to their families that’s their mum.
“The remaining will be sent to the family of Ian, who was shot three times on the back and won’t be able to walk again. This is minus the hospital bills. He will receive tomorrow since the bank limit can’t allow us today,” stated Hanifa.

Uproar Over the M-Changa Transaction Fees
Nyaga Fatma, a user on X responded to the statement, sharing her concerns about the transaction fees charged by the M-changa platform.
“I’m concerned about the ‘platform fee’, you mean those are transactions fees?” questioned Fatma. In response Hanifa said that it was unfortunately the case.
At the same time, X user Jayrik called out the management of the platform, saying that it was unfair to take that much from a humanitarian course.
“M-changa charging Ksh127k in fees to send Ksh2.9M for humanitarian donations is straight up theft!” stated the user.
Also, Clara Torome wondered whether there were other options for sending the rest of the amount to other victims.
“Is there another way money can reach the family because 127k doesn’t make sense,” Torome added.
