Milele Beach Hotel, one of the hospitality facilities owned by the Presbyterian Church of East Africa (PCEA), stands on a prime beachfront property in Bamburi, Mombasa, serving tourists, conference guests and local visitors along Kenya’s North Coast.
The hotel, located off Malindi Road and a short walk from Bamburi Beach and the Indian Ocean, was not always known as Milele Beach Hotel. Before PCEA took ownership, the property operated as Giriama Beach Hotel, a well-known coastal hospitality establishment.
Today, Milele Beach Hotel forms part of a wider portfolio of assets managed by the Presbyterian Foundation, the corporate entity that holds and manages property on behalf of the church.
How PCEA Acquired the Property
Milele Beach Hotel is owned through the Presbyterian Foundation, the legal entity wholly owned by PCEA and mandated to hold assets in trust for the church and its affiliated institutions.
According to information published by PCEA, the foundation was incorporated in 1973 as a company limited by guarantee and oversees various church investments and properties across the country.
The church acquired the former Giriama Beach Hotel in 2007 as part of efforts to expand its investment portfolio and establish a presence in Kenya’s hospitality sector.
A September 2007 Coastweek report documenting the hotel’s dedication said PCEA had long wanted to own and operate a beach hotel in Mombasa. The acquisition of Giriama Beach Hotel marked the realization of that objective.
The report further noted that Equity Bank financed the purchase of the property and also provided additional financial support to facilitate renovation and improvement works after the acquisition.

Following the acquisition, the property underwent refurbishment and was rebranded as Milele Beach Hotel, becoming one of the flagship hospitality investments associated with PCEA.
The rebranding introduced a new identity for the hotel while preserving its strategic location near Bamburi Beach.
Over the years, the hotel has built a reputation as a venue for conferences, corporate retreats, church events, family holidays, and recreational activities.
Unlike many coastal hospitality facilities, Milele Beach Hotel operates as a non-alcoholic establishment, reflecting the values and ownership of PCEA.
Where Is Milele Beach Hotel Located?
Milele Beach Hotel is situated in Bamburi on Mombasa’s North Coast, an area known for its beaches, hotels and tourism attractions.
The property is located off Malindi Road, approximately 8.5 kilometres from Mombasa city centre.
The hotel sits within tropical gardens and lies a short distance from Bamburi Beach, giving guests easy access to the Indian Ocean shoreline.
Its location also places visitors near several attractions, including Haller Park, which is approximately three kilometres away, as well as shopping centres, restaurants and entertainment facilities along the North Coast tourism circuit.
How Many Rooms Does Milele Beach Hotel Have?
When the property was dedicated after its acquisition in 2007, the hotel had 72 rooms with a total bed capacity of 184 people, plus 10 apartments.
