Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika has responded to questions on her whereabouts and reports that she has been missing in action for a while leading to speculations.
In a Statement issued by her Chief of Staff, Kihika revealed that she is on maternity leave.
“Following numerous calls that I have received regarding my absence, as the elected Governor of Nakuru County, I want to first of all assure the people of Nakuru that I am well and currently on maternity leave.
While thanking the people of Nakuru for their concern, I whole heartedly assure them that service delivery in our Great County is proceeding as envisaged under the able guidance of the team led by the Deputy Governor, H E David Kones. I have no doubts whatsoever in HE Kones leading them in my absence,” part of the statement read.
Kihika Explains Her Absence from the Public
Further, Kihika announced that she will be resuming her official duties at the end of her leave in the next few weeks.
According to a media report, her last public appearance was on November 18, 2024, when she presided over a vocational training graduation ceremony.

The Nakuru County boss’s break of silence comes after several people alleged that she has been running Nakuru County while reportedly enjoying her stay in the United States of America.
Netizens react to Nakuru governor’s absence from county duties
Reports of her staying in the United States for about three months sparked mixed reactions online.
A social media user by the name Tonny Pfizer jokingly said, “The people of Nakuru wish to inform the nation that Susan Kihika is missing. She was last seen 3 months ago.”

Other netizens shared a poster circulating on social media with a “missing” tag, her bio, and a contact number, urging anyone who had seen her to call the number provided.
A similar situation regarding concerns about her absence also emerged around May 2023, sparking public debate.
Addressing the matter, she emphasized that her duties remained a top priority, asserting that development projects in Nakuru County continued smoothly despite her absence.
“I understand they need to sell their media content. I’m working,” Kihika remarked, criticizing the media for monitoring her movements.
