Nairobi is set to see a major expansion of its road network under a proposal to construct a new 19.5-kilometer road system aimed at improving traffic circulation around the Talanta Sports City Stadium and the Bomas International Convention Center (BICC).
In an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) Study Report published on August 5, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) announced that it had received the proposal for review in accordance with the Environmental Management and Coordination Act (EMCA).
“Pursuant to Section 59 of the Environmental Management and Coordination Act CAP 387, the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA) has received an Environmental Impact Assessment Study Report for the above proposed project,” the report read in part.
19.5km Talanta -Bomas Road Proposal
The proposed project has been submitted by the Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), which plans to develop the road network to increase road capacity and improve traffic movement in the areas surrounding the two major facilities.
According to the ESIA report, the planned road network will cover approximately 19.5 kilometers and will pass through Dagoretti South, Kibra and Lang’ata constituencies in Nairobi City County.
