The Tanzanian Police Force has responded to reports on the alleged hacking of its official X account, stating that efforts are underway to track down the individuals responsible for creating and spreading the false information.
In a statement issued on May 20, 2025, the police clarified that the Force cannot and does not disseminate content alleging the death of President Samia Suluhu on its social media platforms.
“The Police Force wishes to inform the public that false, misleading, and unethical statements are being circulated on its social media platform (tanpol), aimed at deceiving the public into believing that these claims were issued by the Police Force through its official X account,” the statement read.
Further, the Tanzanian police urged the public to ignore the claims and refrain from sharing them further.
Tanzanian Police X Account Hacked
Tanzania Police Force’s official X account was briefly compromised on Tuesday morning, May 20, 2025, when hackers gained unauthorized access and hosted a live space for several minutes.
The attackers used the platform to spread misinformation, including a false announcement alleging the death of President Samia Suluhu Hassan.
“With deep sorrow, we confirm the death of the President of the United Republic of Tanzania. We urge all citizens to remain calm and uphold unity during this difficult time. May God rest her soul in eternal peace,” read the post.
Samia Suluhu has been making headlines after the deportation of some Kenyan activists and lawyers who were deported from Tanzania, including former Justice Minister Martha Karua and former Chief Justice Willy Mutunga, who were detained and deported by Tanzanian authorities.

Samia Suluhu Take on Activists
The activists had travelled to Tanzania to show solidarity by attending opposition leader Tundu Lissu’s trial but were denied entry and later deported.
In response, President Suluhu asserted that foreign activists would not be permitted to interfere in Tanzania’s internal affairs, underscoring the country’s sovereignty and the importance of maintaining peace.
“We have started to observe a trend in which activists from within our region are attempting to intrude and interfere in our affairs,” Samia Suluhu said.

Tanzanian President Warns Activists
The President alleged that some of these activists are under surveillance or facing pressure in their home countries and are now trying to shift their focus to Tanzania.
Further, she stated that the individuals who stirred unrest in other countries aim to replicate that chaos in her nation that has been peaceful and united.
“They have destroyed their own countries, and now the only peaceful and united nation left is ours. We must not allow those who have brought chaos elsewhere to come and create problems here,” she added.
In addition, the Tanzanian President insisted that it is her constitutional duty to maintain law and order in the country, and she will do everything possible to fulfill that responsibility.
“I do urge the security agencies and our foreign policy leaders not to give room for unruly elements from other countries to come here to us,” she added.
Additionally, she stated that under her leadership, no foreign national will be allowed to enter Tanzania and interfere in local affairs.
