Nairobi businessman and TikToker Godfrey Mwasiaga Kakan Maiyo has been released from Muthaiga police station on a Ksh10,000 bail.
Maiyo spent two days behind bars after he was arrested on July 9 over a viral video posted on his TikTok account.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) confirmed his arrest, stating that the video was inciting violence against police officers.
“Godfrey Mwasiaga Kakan Maiyo, the suspect behind a viral video inciting violence against police officers and their families, has been arrested. The video had been uploaded to his TikTok account,” DCI said.
The Investigative Agency said Maiyo followed the suspect to Kimathi House, where he was operating a discreet office under the name LetaPeleka Logistics.
DCI added that he is currently in custody undergoing processing, pending arraignment.
Plainclothes officers collected Maiyo from his office around 6: 45pm on Wednesday.
Maiyo was reported missing after his family, lawyer, and close associates were unable to locate him.
How Godfrey Maiyo Arrest
In a video seen by The Kenya Times, three men are seen restraining him against the wall before taking him away.
Maiyo is seen struggling to prevent being taken. He even warned them to be careful with him, as he could get shocked by electricity.
“Si mrelax kwanza, hii ni stima iko hapa. Mrelax kwanza,” Maiyo is heard saying in the video.
This translates to, “Just relax first, this is electricity here. Just relax. “

Lawyer’s Statement
His lawyer, David Ogara, said he received information that two men from Maiyo’ s office took him.
Ogara said the officers claimed they were taking Maiyo to the Capitol Hill Police Station, but he was not booked there.
“I was called by one of his employees who informed me that two guys in two Subarus came for him at his office in Kimathi House. They told his employees that they are taking him to the Capitol Hill police station.”
“We went there, but he was not booked in that station. We went to the Nairobi Area, and he was also not there. Later, we were informed that he was taken to DCI headquarters,” he disclosed.

Viral Video
In the video, Maiyo criticised the government and security agencies over alleged extrajudicial operations and abductions.
One of his close friends revealed that Maiyo confided in him that he feared being arrested over his vocal online criticism of the government.
