The National Police Service Commission (NPSC) invited applications from suitably qualified candidates to join the National Police Service (NPS) as Police Constables.
Aspiring police constables in Kenya can now apply online through the National Police Service Commission portal.
The process starts by visiting https://services.npsc.go.ke and selecting the “Recruitment” section.
The recruitment process will take place from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the recruitment centers listed below, on the dates and times indicated against each center.
Apart from the physical requirements, candidates must also pass the medical examination test during the screening exercise.
Here are some of the tips candidates can use to pass the medical examination.
- General Health & Fitness
Stay fit – Candidates should be fit and maintain a healthy weight through regular exercise and a balanced diet.
Avoid alcohol and drugs – They should also avoid abusing drugs and drinking before the recruitment exercise and during the training period. This is because substances can show up in blood or urine tests and lead to disqualification.
Sleep well. They should also get a good night’s sleep before the medical exam. This is to ensure that the vitals, like blood pressure and heart rate, are normal.
- Vision & Hearing
NPSC is normally keen on good eyesight and hearing during the recruitment exercise.
Interested candidates should check their eyesight in advance. Those who need glasses should carry them. However, severe vision problems may lead to automatic disqualification.
Candidates should avoid excessive screen time before the test to reduce eye strain.
Hearing test – Candidates should also keep their ears clean and avoid exposure to loud noises before the recruitment day. This is to ensure that they have good hearing during the screening process.

- Chronic Conditions
Conditions like asthma, epilepsy, diabetes, or heart disease are disqualifying.
Candidates who have experienced these medical conditions should undergo early testing to determine their status. This is just to confirm that they are in good shape to pass the screening.
- Skin & Body Appearance
Tattoos: Candidates should avoid visible tattoos on exposed body parts. NPSC automatically disqualifies candidates with tattoos.
Treat skin infections. The Commission also disqualifies candidates with severe skin diseases, such as fungal infections, acne, and wounds. Such diseases should be detected and treated early.
Candidates should also ensure that they do not have untreated scars or growths that could raise red flags.

- Dental Health
Dental health is part of the medical screening during the police recruitment.
The candidate must have good oral health, with healthy teeth and gums.
They should have Functional teeth and no severe dental decay.
Similarly, candidates should have no major jaw or gum disease and no artificial replacements that affect function.
Therefore, candidates should visit a dentist before recruitment to address any cavities, gum infections, or missing teeth issues that may affect their ability to chew and speak.
- Women Candidates
Pregnancy: Female recruits must not be pregnant at the time of recruitment or during training.
Consider scheduling the exam away from your monthly cycle if heavy symptoms may interfere with medical tests.
