President Donald Trump issued a stern warning on June 10, to anyone planning to protest during this weekend’s military parade in Washington, organized to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army.
Authorities are anticipating a large turnout for the June 14 event. According to U.S. Secret Service Special Agent in Charge Matt McCool, law enforcement is preparing for hundreds of thousands of attendees.
Trump warns protesters
“Those who are thinking of protesting will be met with huge force; these are people who hate our country,” Trump told reporters during an unscheduled briefing in the Oval Office.
McCool noted that thousands of officers, agents, and specialists from various law enforcement bodies across the nation will be on duty.
While the FBI and the Metropolitan Police Department have reported no credible threats so far, security will be tight.
A U.S. Secret Service spokesperson confirmed on Tuesday that at least nine permits have been granted for demonstrations scheduled to take place on the same day.
In his Oval Office address, Trump also spoke about his recent decision to send 4,000 National Guard members and 700 Marines to Los Angeles.
The U.S. Army’s incoming event
The deployment came after protests broke out in response to federal immigration raids on job sites in the city.

Trump justified the move, stating the troops were essential in managing the situation, despite resistance from both state and local officials who argued that the presence of military forces was unwarranted.
The upcoming Army celebration on June 14, which marks the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary parade in Washington, D.C, will coincide with President Trump’s 79th birthday.
The festivities will feature a birthday festival for the Army on the National Mall, a parade through the streets of Washington, and a ceremony for military enlistments and re-enlistments, which the president is expected to oversee.
The protest movement and their message
One of the main protest movements organising demonstrations on that day is a group called No Kings.
On its website, the group expresses strong opposition to the current administration, claiming it has disregarded court rulings, deported U.S. citizens, abducted people from public areas, infringed on civil rights, and cut public services.

“They’ve defied our courts, deported Americans, disappeared people off the streets, attacked our civil rights and slashed our services,” the group says on its website.
