Charlie Kirk, a prominent conservative activist and founder of Turning Point USA, has died at the age of 31 after being shot in the neck during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University.
The attack occurred just after noon on September 10, sending attendees into panic and leaving the conservative movement mourning the loss of one of its most vocal and influential young leaders.
Kirk’s death was confirmed by former President Donald Trump in a series of posts on Truth Social.
“The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead,” Trump wrote. “No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me.”
In a follow-up message, Trump announced that flags across the United States would be lowered to half-staff until Sunday evening in Kirk’s honor, calling him a truly Great American Patriot.
“I am ordering all American Flags throughout the United States lowered to Half Mast until Sunday evening at 6 p.m.” Trump wrote
A Rising Star in Conservative Circles
Born Charles James Kirk on October 14, 1993, in Arlington Heights, Illinois, Kirk was raised in the suburbs of Chicago.
He attended Wheeling High School and briefly enrolled at Harper College before leaving to pursue a full-time career in activism.

That decision would lead to the founding of Turning Point USA in 2012, when Kirk was just 18 years old.
The organization, which began as a modest campus initiative, grew into one of the most prominent conservative advocacy groups in the country, with affiliated branches including Turning Point Action and Turning Point Faith.
Through his work, Kirk became a dominant voice on college campuses and a key figure in the Republican Party’s efforts to reach young voters.
He is known for his combative style and sharp soundbites; he was a frequent presence on conservative talk shows and news programs.
He also hosted his own nationally syndicated radio program, “The Charlie Kirk Show.”
Author, Activist, Trump Ally
Kirk’s relationship with Donald Trump proved to be both strategic and personal.
He was one of Trump’s most loyal public defenders, and Turning Point events often featured high-profile Republican figures.
Kirk was a keynote speaker at several major conservative conferences, including the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) and the Republican National Convention in 2024.
His published works, including Campus Battlefield (2018), The MAGA Doctrine (2020), and Right-Wing Revolution (2024), further cemented his reputation as a leading voice in the MAGA movement.

A devout Christian, Kirk often focused on faith in his speeches and credited his success to mentorship from the late Bill Montgomery, who helped co-found Turning Point USA.
A Legacy Cut Short
At the time of his death, Kirk was continuing his efforts to galvanize young conservative voters ahead of the 2026 midterms.
His presence at Utah Valley University was part of a nationwide campus tour.
Kirk is survived by his wife, Erika Frantzve, whom he married in 2021, and their two children.
As the conservative movement reels from his sudden death, tributes have poured in from across the political spectrum.
But for many, including Trump, Kirk’s absence will leave a lasting void. “Charlie, we love you,” Trump wrote.
“We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy. Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight, especially his wife Erika and their two young children” former US President Obama wrote.
