The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has released a list of teachers promoted to higher grades following successful interviews conducted in January and February this year.

In a statement on April 2, 2025, TSC announced the promotion of 25,252 teachers, months after another 36,505 tutors were promoted in March last year.

The promotion interviews for post-primary school teachers were held between January 27 and February 6, 2025, covering institutions such as secondary schools and Teacher Training Colleges (TTCs).

Interviews for primary school teachers, on the other hand, took place from January 13 to January 23, 2025.

The interview panels comprised Curriculum Support Officers (CSOs), Human Resource Officers, and Sub-County Directors, who focused on document verification. Teachers were required to present their identification, academic credentials, and other essential documents for validation.

Initially, TSC had announced 25,288 promotion slots for both primary and post-primary teachers.

The first advertisement, published between November 12 and November 18, 2024, offered 5,690 positions for school directors.

Additionally, the commission advertised 19,943 teaching positions in occupational groups C1 through D3 on December 17, 2024.

Of these, 9,179 were allocated to post-primary institutions, while 16,109 were designated for primary schools.

How to check TSC promotions

Teachers who applied for promotions can check their status through a link on the TSC website. To confirm a promotion, visit the Teachers Service Commission website, where the commission’s latest updates are displayed on the homepage.

Under the updates section, click on “List of Successful Teacher Promotions 2023-2024.”

This will open a new window containing a PDF file with the names of all successful applicants. You will need to download the file to view the full list.

Promoted teachers are listed in the file alongside their respective TSC numbers.

The promotions came days after the commission activated its online application portal and invited qualified primary school teachers who wished to be deployed to Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) to apply.

JSS jobs

In January this year, TSC said that only teachers serving under permanent and pensionable terms in public primary schools and meet the requisite qualifications should apply.

To be eligible, the commission said one must be serving as a primary school teacher employed by TSC.

They must also have attained a Mean Grade C+ at KCSE and a minimum C+ in each of the two cluster subjects that align with the JSS curriculum.

The deployment came with a number of benefits, including but not limited to better remuneration and opportunity to grow, as well as offering teaching experiences in a dynamic and evolving education system.

To apply, teachers were advised to visit the TSC online application portal and log in with their TSC number and password.

The deployment slots were limited to 6,000 vacancies, with the commission seeking to bridge a 72,422-teacher deficit in JSS across the country.
