Twin sisters from a family in Migori County have petitioned Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu to help them join the same university.
In an interview, Onduso Ida and Brenda Nyanchama argued that joining the same university will enable their parents to cater for their needs and help the family save money.
Onduso and Brenda sat for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) in 2023 at Omobiri Secondary School and scored a B+ (plus) and B-(minus) respectively.
“When the portals were opened, we both applied for Bachelor of Education at Rongo University and we would like the government to help us gain admission at Rongo,” Brenda said.
Father Petitions Machogu
According to the father, the twins have attended the same schools since nursery and excelled in their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE).
However, he mentioned that his daughters risk missing out on university education since he doesn’t have a job.
“They joined form one and sat for their KCSE in 2023. They performed equally well; one got a B+ while the other one scored a B-,” he said.
He cited the hard economic times but promised to raise enough money to ensure that Brenda and her sister are admitted to university.
“Life has been hard and there are no jobs, I don’t have any other alternative to educate my children. I don’t have money to admit them to university, but we have thought about it, and I will ensure that they get admitted,” he said.

He went on to request the government to help the twins get admission to the Rongo University.

Onduso explained that they intentionally applied for the same course at the same institution so that they can help each throughout the four years.
“We are going to pursue education. Like my father has said, I pray that we be admitted to the same university so that we can help each other in any way possible,” she said.
Residents in their neighborhood are also delighted with the twin’s KCSE results, adding that students performed well in last year’s national examinations.
“My neighbor’s kids passed very well, and we would like the government to ensure that they are all admitted at Rongo University,” said one neighbor.

The revision targeted previous applicants who had not yet secured a course or those who hadn’t submitted their course selections.
Applicants who had already secured a course were directed to wait for the release of placement results after all applications are processed.
