While mourning the death of a close friend, former President Uhuru Kenyatta opened up about his own health struggles.
Speaking during the memorial service for Frank Ireri, the former Managing Director of Housing Finance Company of Kenya, who passed away on October 28, 2025, at the age of 63, Uhuru Kenyatta delivered an emotional tribute, during which he hinted at his own health struggles.
As he recollected their moments together, Uhuru said Ireri had been a consistent source of encouragement over the past year, especially when he and others faced various challenges, including health-related ones.
“In the last year — a good part of this year — whenever we met, he was very encouraging about some of the challenges we were going through. He had more experience than some of us and always guided us on how to face challenges in life, health, and otherwise,” he said.
Recalling Ireri’s support, he narrated how the late held his hand and told him not to worry.
He added that some among them were still “fighting” health challenges, but they trust that “when it is God’s time, we shall join him.”

“I will miss that counsel. He held our hands and reminded us not to worry — that things would pass. He told us to trust in God and stay steady even in difficult times,” he said.
“Frank is lying here because it is his time. Those of us who still face our challenges will continue fighting, but when God’s time comes, we shall join him — grateful for the life we lived and the moments we shared,” he added.
He concluded by explaining that Ireri’s passing was part of a divine plan and expressing gratitude for the life they shared.

Former Jubilee Digital Communications specialist Pauline Njoroge had earlier issued a statement denying the reports about Uhuru’s health status.
“Someone wakes up, as usual, creates a fictional story, and posts it on social media. But this time, it’s about someone’s health, claiming that the person is critically ill and, in the ICU,” she said.
While no official medical update was provided, the absence of Kenyatta from public view, combined with these persistent speculations, drew national attention.
