Former President Uhuru Kenyatta delivered a much-anticipated speech during an event attended by President William Ruto, DP Kithure Kindiki and former DP Rigathi Gachagua.
Speaking during the Episcopal Consecration and Installation of Embu Catholic Diocese Bishop-Elect Peter Kimani Ndung’u in Embu County, Uhuru refrained from commenting on current affairs.
The crowd cheered when Uhuru mentioned that he follows the happenings on television just like other Kenyans.
“I don’t have much to say, nowadays I just watch television and listen to radio,” he said.
Uhuru Calls for Peace
Uhuru called for peace and asked leaders to shun away tribal politics.
He stated that leaders and Kenyans should work together to ensure the country moves forward.
“Let us pray for a country, pray for peace, and understanding between the leaders and the people. Let us love one another and stop tribalism. We are all Kenyans, and the country cannot succeed if we are divided and insulting one another,” Uhuru said.
The former President said political leaders should respect the people and they will return the favor.
Request to Leave Early
Additionally, Uhuru asked to leave early before Ruto concluded his speech to avoid the rush by political leaders.
“I would ask that I bring gift the bishop because I will leave immediately the president finishes talking. I can’t cope with the rush, speed and noise, it gives me a headache. I want to finish with you so that I can leave early,” he said.

C0ngratulations to New Bishop
Uhuru also thanked Pope Francis for appointing Ndung’u as Bishop of the Diocese of Embu.
“I want to congratulate my long-time friend Kimani for his ordainment. I have no doubt, the residents of Embu have found a leader who look after their needs,” he said.
He stated that that Embu people are hardworking, prayerful, respectful and will help him in building the Church.
Further, he urged bishop Ndung’u to respect the people who will in turn respect and support him during his time at the county.

“You have got good people and I’m sure that you are going to have a fantastic and perfect working relationship together,” he said.
Besides, the former President stated that he will support the bishop in building the Church and doing the Lord’s work.
He emphasized that he would just do the Lord’s work without engaging in politics.
“I want to assure that you can welcome us anytime together with the people of Embu so that we can build the Church,’ Uhuru said.
“I am assuring that I will not bring politics to Church, I will just bring my contributions and for the things you’ll call me for.”
