Unidentified youth on Saturday, July 20, stormed activist Boniface Mwangi’s office, Sema Ukweli Kenya in Nairobi asking him to halt the anti-government demonstrations which have led to the death of more than 50 individuals.

In footage seen by The Kenya Times, the unknown youth on motorbikes were seen around the activist’s office block that houses Sema Ukweli, a justice and human rights media organization that he uses to do his exposes.

Others were spotted carrying placards reading “It has taken us 62 years to build peace in our country, let us not destroy it in one day” as they demanded an audience with the activist.

“We do not want demonstrations held by Gen Z, because through the protests we have lost jobs. Some of us are suffering because we have children. Let us be patient with the government. Activists should stop destroying our country,” one of the youth said.

“Goons on motorbikes have descended upon Boniface Mwangi’s Sema Ukweli Kenya offices, an independent media organization that highlight stories of injustice in Kenya. There have been posts by govt bloggers on social media inciting personal attacks against Bonnie and then this happens,” James Wa Njeri stated on X.

Boniface Mwangi Speaks on the Raid

While taking to his X account, Boniface Mwangi confirmed the presence of “goons” stating that the CCTV footage captured those who came to his offices to protest against him.

Mwangi has been at the forefront of advocating for change in government through the anti-government protests that began last month and sparked by the contentious Finance Bill 2024.
He claimed that the individuals were goons paid by the government to scare him off the protests after allegedly refusing to meet President William Ruto.

“The government has been sending goons to look for me since l declined to meet Zakayo,” he said.

“Blaming me for the protests happening across Kenya is giving me too much credit. The movement to change Kenya is unstoppable.”

Boniface said that the youth were in the compound for about five minutes, and that he had reported the incident to Kilimani Police Station

“The hired goons were in our office compound for about 5 minutes and made a lot of threats. They said they will attack my home too,” he said.

“Cowardly attacks by a tone-deaf government, and their goons won’t scare me. Do better.”

The Vocal Activist

Over the past few days, activist Boniface Mwangi has faced attacks on social media, with pro-government Kenyans on social media accusing him of being funded to sponsor the anti-government protests.

Mwangi, however, has denied these allegations and vowed to continue advocating for justice and a better Kenya.

Meanwhile, NARC Kenya party leader Martha Karua, taking to her X account, condemned the attack, terming it unacceptable.

Karua called on the relevant authorities, including the police service and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), to investigate the attack on the activist.

The incident comes as Kenyans have called for a return to protests on Tuesday, July 28, dubbing it the “mother of all protests” as they push for President William Ruto’s exit.
