About the US Veterans Day
Veterans Day is set aside to thank and honour all those who served in the military, in wartime or peacetime.
The day is largely intended to thank living veterans for their service, to acknowledge their contributions to the US national security, and to underscore the fact that all those who served, not just those who died.
In November 1919, President Wilson proclaimed November 11 as the first commemoration of Armistice Day.
The original concept for the celebration was for a day observed with parades and public meetings and a brief suspension of business beginning at 11:00 am.
However, the United States Congress officially recognized the end of World War I when it passed a concurrent resolution on June 4, 1926.
Later in 1954, on October 8th, President Dwight D. Eisenhower issued the first Veterans Day Proclamation.

Who Announces Closure of Govt Offices
Every year, as the holidays approach, federal employees across the US always watch for announcements from the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) about whether they’ll have an extra day off.
If a federal holiday lands on a weekend, OPM shifts the closure to a weekday. For instance, when a holiday falls on a Saturday, the federal government will usually close on Friday.
However, if it’s on a Sunday, the following Monday becomes the observed holiday.
However, the OPM’s decisions apply only to federal government offices. State and local governments, including schools, have their own ways of marking holidays.
Local offices and schools operate independently, setting closures according to local needs and traditions.
