Kisii Senator Richard Onyonka has accepted that the Azimio One Kenya Coalition lost the 2022 presidential elections.
Speaking on Citizen TV on Thursday September 14, Senator Onyonka stated that Azimio , under Raila Odinga, lost the elections, and will perform its role as the opposition.
“We have accepted our fate, we lost the elections, we are in the opposition and will checkmate the government,” said Onyonka.
Also, Senator Onyonka recognized President William Ruto as the head of state adding that it’s Azimio’s duty to put him on check.
“Like me, I don’t want to start singing how President Ruto is a good person, I already know he is a great guy because he is President now.
“However, I will be telling him when his promises are not working so that he can consult with his team and find out what the problem is,” said the Senator.
Azimio oversight role
Further, Senator Onyonka explained that such oversight will help move the country to a greater level.
Additionally, the Senator pleaded with the ruling team and the opposition to look for a middle ground to reduce political tensions.

While comparing the previous and the current arguments by section of the Kenya Kwanza team, the senator argued that it was possible to reach an agreement.
“Let us look for people with good faith and will to make sure that this country keeps moving and we change direction how we treat ourselves as Kenyans,” explained Onyonka.
Moreover, he stated that the hate and tribalism experienced because of political sides is heartbreaking adding that Kenyans are better.
“We have one country; we are not going anywhere. If this country gets into a mess, we tank it,” he said.

Copy Coalition regime
In addition, the senator asked President Ruto to learn from the Coalition government between the then President Mwai Kibaki and Prime Minister Raila Odinga.
According to Senator Onyonka, the Coalition is one of the most efficient governments in the history of the country.
Further, he said he would be performing his roles and present before the president who would ask for his expert opinion during decision making.
“That is what I expect President Ruto to do, delegate your juniors and get good people. Don’t achieve ten things, we want him to achieve three, reduce the cost of inflation, make sure the shilling stabilizes, reduce the amount of debt and fight corruption,” said Onyonka.
Onyonka said if the president focuses and delivers few things, Kenyans will start taking his promises seriously.
