The Central Organization of Trade Unions (COTU) Secretary General Francis Atwoli has revealed why President William Ruto will be reelected in 2027.

In a TV interview, Atwoli said the president’s new political tactic will allow him to win the next polls easily.

Atwoli said Ruto has gained support in Western Kenya and the Nyanza region.

He stated that Ruto now has the support of former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, Prime CS Musalia Mudavadi, National Assembly Moses Wetangula and Cooperative CS Wycliffe Oparanya.

“With the direction President Ruto has taken, that trajectory that he is now taking, he will be the President at 10am 2027. If now he does what he is doing in Western Kenya,” he said.

“Who else is outside? You have Mudavadi you want to tell me someone will defeat you? He has brought in Oparanya and has the Speaker, that area is covered, others are noise makers.”

Don’t Belittle the President-Atwoli

Atwoli advised politicians to stop underestimating President Ruto even as the political class reorganize ahead of the next polls.

He recalled how former President Uhuru Kenyatta supported Raila in the 2022 elections, but they still lost.

“Don’t underestimate Ruto. In this country, I fear losing and I am a serious campaigner, and I sit and read and plan what to do the next day. I did everything in the books of politics by supporting Raila Odinga, we had everybody in the Republic of Kenya, and we had a sitting President behind us, and we lost,” he said.

Impact of Ruto Being in Power

Atwoli wondered how people could think Ruto would lose as a sitting president when he had managed to win against the Azimio Coalition while being “outside” the government.

“We managed to convince Uhuru to put Ruto aside but how did he come? Like thunder and he was outside and now he is inside. Think twice before you lose your money. If you want to bet, bet for Ruto,” he added.

He stated that Ruto is a sharp and fearless politician ready to showcase strength and support to his opponents at all times.

Kalonzo as Leader of Opposition

Besides, Atwoli said the opposition is still alive with the leadership of Kalonzo Musyoka and Eugene Wamalwa.

He stated that Kalonzo is the man to watch but admitted that they can’t be as strong as Raila.

Atwoli claimed that he asked Kalonzo to step into the face of the opposition but told him he can’t win the presidency in 2027.

“I am the one who put Kalonzo in his current position and I told him that Raila is tired and so he should take over. I however told him that for 2027, the deal is done,” he said.

Omtatah’s Bid and Term Limits

He also urged Busia Senator Okiya Omtatah to consult the regional leaders and prepare financially if he wants to run for president in 2027.

Further, he stated that Kenya should do away with the presidential term limit because it is causing problems.

“People have made politics an industry because they know the President’s term will come to an end,” he said.
