Maasai Mara National Reserve, located in Narok County, Kenya has been included in the World Book of Records.
In a letter addressed to Narok Governor Patrick Ole Ntuntu, World Book of Records President Santosh Shukla said Maasai Mara has been added to the records because of the world’s greatest annual terrestrial wildlife migration.
Shukla said the remarkable recognition honours the ecological significance of the Maasai Mara and highlights Kenya’s exceptional contribution to wildlife conservation, global biodiversity, and sustainable eco-tourism.
“We are delighted to inform you that the Maasai Mara National Reserve has been officially included in World Book of Records under the distinguished title: “World’s Greatest Annual Terrestrial Wildlife Migration” For hosting the largest and most dramatic annual land animal migration on Earth, involving over 1.5 million wildebeests, zebras, and antelopes traversing the Serengeti-Mara ecosystem,” Shukla said.
Shukla said the official World Record Certificate will be presented to Ntuntu.
He revealed that officials from the World Book of Records will visit Maasai Mara and asked Ntuntu to select a suitable date and time.
“To commemorate this prestigious inclusion, we would be honored to present the official World Record Certificate at the campus of Maasai Mara National Reserve,” Shukla added.
“We request your kind confirmation for a suitable date and time for this presentation ceremony. Our official representatives would be pleased to coordinate and visit the reserve for this special occasion.We look forward to celebrating this moment of pride and global appreciation together with your esteemed institution.”

Ntuntu on Maasai Mara National Reserve Achievement
In a statement, Ntuntu said Narok County is deeply honoured to receive prestigious recognition from the World Book of Records.
He stated that the international recognition not only honours the breathtaking migration of more than 1.5 million wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes, but also underscores the exceptional ecological importance of the Greater Maasai Mara Ecosystem, which supports over 25 per cent of Kenya’s biodiversity.

Defense Cabinet Secretary Soipan Tuya also commended Narok County.
“The inclusion of the Mara in the world’s most recognized authority on record-keeping since 1955, for the spectacular annual wildebeest migration, is a major boost to Kenya’s world acclaimed wildlife conservation and safari tourism efforts,” said Tuya.
