Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has accused the US President Donald Trump of engaging in discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin over a potential secret deal.
In a statement shared on February 19 on his X account, Zelenskyy said he was aware that “Americans and some Europeans are negotiating a document between NATO and Russia”.
“I know that Americans, and maybe some Europeans, are discussing a new document with Russia, between NATO and Russia,” he said in part of his post.
Zelenskyy emphasised that Ukraine’s potential membership in NATO should be discussed directly with Kyiv, not only with Russia.
The Ukrainian President acknowledged that talks might proceed without Ukraine’s involvement. Additionally, he noted that Ukraine would respond to any unexpected developments.
“But for me, it’s important that they discuss our potential place in NATO with us. Not just with the Russians – with us. Because it’s about us. Because it’s about us. But they might also do it without us. Maybe we don’t know something. In any case, we will react to surprises if they happen,” Zelenskyy noted.

Zelenskyy Urges Focus on Ending War, Not Historical Debates
In a separate post on the same day, Zelenskyy said he does not need historical discussions to move toward diplomacy, calling them a delay tactic.
“I don’t need historical shit to end this war and move to diplomacy. Because it’s just a delay tactic,” he said.
He emphasised that he knows more about Russia than Putin knows about Ukraine, having travelled widely across both major and smaller Russian cities.
Zelenskyy stressed that his priority is the ongoing war and its resolution, not debates about political systems or history.
Additionally, he stated that any dialogue with Russia should focus solely on ending the conflict quickly and successfully.

“But there is security. There is a big war waged against us. This is our lives. The only thing that I want to speak about with him is that I think that we need to resolve it successfully. I mean to end this war quickly. That is why I want to speak only about such things,” he stressed.
Zelenskyy Moves to Cripple Russia’s Critical War Support Networks
The Ukrainian President declared war on Russia, announcing a new package of sanctions targeting Belarus over its role in supporting Russia’s military operations.
In his statement on February 18, Zelenskyy said the measures are aimed at disrupting critical support systems that have enabled attacks on Ukrainian territory.
“Today, Ukraine applied a package of sanctions against Alexander Lukashenko, and we will significantly intensify countermeasures against all forms of his assistance in the killing of Ukrainians,” Zelenskyy stated.
He added that Ukraine will coordinate with partners “so that this has a global effect.”
