Dr. Lucy Wanja Julius, a senior legal professional and academic, appeared before the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) on January 13, 2026, for an interview for the position of Judge of the Court of Appeal in Kenya.
She gained significant public attention in 2016 when she interviewed for the position of Chief Justice, referring to herself as “David” facing the Judiciary’s “Goliath,” and expressing faith-driven confidence in her ability to lead.
Wanja also proposed restricting media coverage in courtrooms to protect judicial independence, suggesting that journalists should be present only with litigants’ consent, and advocating for the full digitization and automation of court registries within one year of appointment.

Wanja holds a Doctorate (PhD), with her title “Dr.” reflecting her advanced academic standing, usually associated with her long-term role in university instruction.
