Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) have arrested a man who is allegedly the mastermind behind theft of mobile phones in Nairobi City.
The officers recovered hundreds of stolen phones following a raid at the suspects shop in Califonia house along Gaberone Street, on Thursday, September 7.
Moreover, the suspect operates a second-hand mobile phone shop in the location where the stolen phones were found.
Likewise, DCI officers recovered a software installation device, external storage devices and universal flushing device interface gadgets popularly known as ‘ndongois’.
According to detectives, the suspect is currently in custody assisting officers with further investigations.

What to do When Your Mobile Phone is Stolen
It is not a surprise for any resident of Nairobi to hear news of stolen mobile phones. The busy streets of Kenya’s capital city carry a long pick-pocketers, among them mobile phone thieves.
Some of these mobile phone thieves may target you in the streets while walking on a crowded street, in public service vehicles commonly known as ‘matatus’, and on the road while receiving a call by phone snatchers on motorbikes.
Either way, it is important to always keep your phone secured while roaming the streets of Nairobi.

Nonetheless, when you fall victim to mobile phone thieves, here are a couple of things to do when your phone is stolen.
Confirm It is Stolen
Before anything else, ensure you did not just misplace your phone, check your bag or belongings to ascertain this then call to confirm if it rings or if someone answers it.
File a Police Report
After confirming it was stolen, go to the nearest police station and report. Avoid confronting thieves as it may pose a lot of danger. The officers may then track your phone after providing necessary information and locate its whereabouts.

Use the ‘Find my Device’ Feature
You may locate your phone using the “Find my device” function available in both Apple and Android phones. If you have a different device (such as an iPad or laptop), use the feature to locate the phone and inform police officers to go and retrieve it.
Moreover, you may also remotely erase or lock your phone.
Replace Block and Replace your Sim Card
To avoid thieves from stealing from you and your contacts, call your sim card providers and have them block your line and you a new one. This will help keep the thieves from calling your contacts and impersonating you.
