A police officer has been arrested following allegations of killing a nineteen-year-old man in Kirinyaga county.
The officer was apprehended after residents stormed Kirinyaga police station where she worked.
According to reports, the residents angrily accompanied the deceased’s family led by his aunt Sicily Wangu to demand answers over the killing of their Kin.
The 19-year-old identified as Derrick Gachoki had finished his secondary school education last year and was set to join the university.
While speaking with the press, one of Derrick’s friends narrated that they were playing pool at Kiandai shopping centre when police officers arrived leading to the unfortunate incident.
The deceased grandmother, Jane Muthoni questioned why the officers took Derrick’s body to the mortuary without informing the family first.

“We thought Derrick Gachoki went home, but police officers killed him and took the body to Kerugoya mortuary. We have seen him today at Kerugoya Mortuary after police informed us following our storming of the station. We want to know why they took the body to the mortuary without our knowledge. We want justice,” Ann Muthoni said.
“Derrick Gachoki completed form four last year and I had been taking care of him. Why have they decided to take his life? We want to know why they took the body to the mortuary without our knowledge. We want justice.”

Police Commander Confirms Incident and Arrest
The region’s police commander Andrew Naibei confirmed that the incident happened on Saturday, May 18 night during police patrol.
He also added that the police officer accused is currently held in custody and that he has informed the county security committee chairman of the same.
Naibei further expressed his condolences to the family affirming that the family will get justice.
“Police officers were on patrol last night when the incident happened and right now, we have launched an investigation to see the family get justice,” Naibei told the press.
“I have informed the chairman of the security committee in the county. Please tell them to receive our condolences; it is very unfortunate.”

In addition, Baragwi Member of County Assembly David Mathenge has demanded justice for Derrick Gachoki.
“We want to know whether playing pool is illegal in my ward. He completed his secondary education the other day. Why take the life of a young person? We are happy the police officer known as Ann has been arrested, but we still demand justice for Derrick,” Mathenge said.
