Trans Nzoia County police have issued a one-week ultimatum to residents in possession of illegal firearms to surrender their weapons.
According to Trans Nzoia West Deputy County Commissioner Charles Ocharo, the move is aimed ending the frequent attacks in Gitwamba area in Saboti Constituency and its environs.
“We have the names of the illegal gun holders. The disarmament exercise is seventy-five percent complete. We hereby call on those in possession of the said weapons to surrender with immediate effect,” Ocharo stated.
Moreover, the Area Officer Commanding Police Division (OCPD) Patrick Lobolia noted that they have information on facilitators of the gangs.
Likewise, the OCPD urged residents to volunteer information that could lead to the arrest of the suspects.
The move to disarm Trans Nzoia residents comes as the county security team embarked on a disarmament operation following an increase violent crime in the region.
