Nestled along the Mara River within the 70,000-acre Mara North Conservancy in the Maasai Mara, Royal Mara Safari Lodge offers an intimate luxury safari experience for guests.
The boutique tented lodge features eight exclusive luxury suites designed to provide privacy, comfort, and uninterrupted views of the river and surrounding forested ridge.
Its river-facing tents allow guests to enjoy game viewing directly from their accommodation, making wildlife encounters part of the everyday experience.
Royal Mara Safari Lodge is strategically located near some of the Maasai Mara’s most famous migration crossing points, including Koiyaki Kichwa Tembo and Mara Serena, as well as Leopard Gorge, known from the BBC’s Big Cat Diary.
History of Royal Mara Safari Lodge
The story of Royal Mara Safari Lodge began nearly two decades ago when its founder, George, watched an episode of the BBC’s Big Cat Diaries while living in the United States.
Inspired by the story of Zawadi, a female leopard featured on the show, he traveled to the Maasai Mara in search of the elusive cat.
Captivated by the beauty of the savannah and the wildlife, George chose to remain in Kenya and eventually established the lodge along the Mara River.
During the migration season between June and November, thousands of wildebeest gather around the camp’s surroundings to graze, offering guests front-row seats to one of the world’s greatest wildlife spectacles.
Guests at the lodge enjoy dining experiences inspired by local flavors and African cuisine, served in various settings including the main restaurant, private suite decks, and bush dinners under the stars.
The lodge also offers cultural experiences such as visits to Maasai villages, allowing visitors to connect with the local community and traditions.
