A huge fire broke out early Tuesday, May 27 morning at Nyambaria Boys High School in Nyamira County, completely razing a dormitory.
Additionally, the fire left 380 students without their personal belongings.
According to preliminary reports, the fire started around 4:00 AM after the students had already left the dormitory for early morning prep.
Fortunately, no injuries have been reported. Despite the prompt response from the Nyamira County fire brigade, efforts to contain the blaze were unsuccessful.
Consequently, the dormitory, which was located near the school kitchen, was reduced to ashes.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Nyambaria Boys Parents Alerted
In an official communication shared with parents and guardians, the school made assurances that all the students were safe.
Further, the parents were notified that they were not allowed within the school compound to ensure investigations were not interfered with.
“Due to the sensitivity of the matter and for our boys’ safety, nobody is allowed in school unless you are part of government multi-sectoral agencies,” the statement read.
Additionally, parents were informed that classes were still in progress and that the form four candidates were sitting their exams.
“All our boys are safe and slowly normalcy is being achieved. Candidates are now on with their exam, all others are in class and they are being talked to.
“Let’s remain calm, the situation is under control. No cause for alarm,” added the statement.

Mbale Boys Students Sent Home
Earlier on Monday, May 26, students at Friends School Mbale in Vihiga County were sent home indefinitely following a Sunday night rampage that resulted in the destruction of school property.
The unrest reportedly began after students were denied permission to watch the final day matches of the Spanish LaLiga.
Consequently, several students sustained injuries during the chaos.
Also, damage was inflicted on the deputy principal’s office, who is believed to have made the decision to bar the students from watching the matches.
