NMG Journalist Handpicked by International Body for Key Role

She expressed her eagerness to work within the foundation to support fellow journalists in their careers.

The Nation Media Group (NMG) managing editor Pamella Makotsi Sittoni has joined the Thomson Foundation Board of Trustees.

Speaking during her appointment to the board, Pamella Sittoni expressed her eagerness to work within the foundation to support fellow journalists in their careers.

“I look forward to working with the distinguished trustees and staff of Thomson Foundation to contribute to journalism at a time when the profession faces serious threats and challenges.

I hope to use my experience over the years to advance Thomson’s mission to support journalists and the ecosystem in which they operate,” she stated.

Pamella Sittoni’s Experience

Sittoni who is currently NMG’s Group managing editor previously served as the executive editor and managing editor of The Daily Nation.

Moreover, she is also the first woman to be appointed executive and managing editor at the Nation Media Group.

Likewise, her impressive resume includes two decades worth of experience working in the field of journalism in Africa.

Pamella Sittoni also boasts of extensive specialism in forging partnerships, editorial management, and media advocacy. 

Some of her most notable achievements within NMG include setting up a gender desk to champion the coverage of women’s issues.

Through her efforts, she won the World Association of News Publishers Editorial Leadership Award

Before her stint at NMG, Sittoni worked at the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) as a communications specialist.

Among her achievements at UNICEF include conceptualizing and leading a UNICEF campaign for parliamentarians to support children’s rights.

Prior to her appointment at the Thomson Foundation Board of Trustees, she had previously worked with the international foundation.

In 2021, she was a mentor on the Thomson Foundation’s inaugural Bettina Fund for the Women in Media Leadership program.

The program is meant to support the next generation of women leaders in Kenyan media.  

in addition, Pamela Sittoni joins the Thomson Foundation Board alongside journalist and investment professional, Katharine Campbell.

Katherine Campbell is an investment professional of twenty years, and a former journalist with the Financial Times in London and Frankfurt.

The Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Thomson Foundation, Lord Tom Chandos, expressed his delight to have both Katharine Campbell and Pamella Makotsi Sittoni join the board.

“Their expertise in finance and journalism will be invaluable as we grow Thomson for the future,” he noted.

Also, Caro Kriel Chief Executive of the Thomson Foundation commented on the appointment saying, “In Katharine Campbell and Pamella Makotsi Sittoni, we have two supporters who like us, passionately believe in the value of trusted media to inform local communities.”
