Iran has executed two men accused of attempting to storm a military facility and access an armory during unrest in January 2026.
According to rights group Amnesty International, Mohammadamin Biglari and Shahin Vahedparast, among others, were arrested and accused of trying to steal military weapons and equipment.
The Supreme Court upheld the sentences for the two defendants after their death sentences were issued on 9 February, about a month after their arrest.
Meanwhile, Iran’s demonstrations broke out in late December over rising living costs, then spread nationwide and evolved into anti-government protests that peaked on January 8 and 9.
Iranian authorities said the rallies began peacefully before turning into “foreign-instigated riots” involving killings and vandalism.
Amnesty International Calls for End of Citizens’ Executions in Iran
This follows a previous call by the rights group Amnesty International on the Iranian authorities to halt all plans to execute individuals sentenced to death after being convicted of committing offenses during the January 2026.
The organization urged authorities to quash their convictions and death sentences and promptly put an end to expedited torture-tainted grossly unfair trials against at least 22 others in connection with the uprising.
Amnesty International argued that at least 30 individuals are facing the death penalty for alleged offenses linked to the January 2026 protests.

They include at least eight individuals convicted and sentenced to death in February, within weeks of their arrests, namely Saleh Mohammadi, aged 18, Mohammad Amin Biglari, aged 19, Ali Fahim, Abolfazl Salehi Siavashani, Amirhossein Hatami, Shahin Vahedparast Kolor, Shahab Zohdi, and Yaser Rajaifar.
The organization noted that at least 22 others, including two 17-year-old children, are at risk of the death penalty as they undergo or await trial proceedings marred by torture-tainted “confessions” and other serious violations of the right to a fair trial.
Amensty further stated that the individuals had been denied access to lawyers during the investigation phase and refused to recognize independent legal counsel appointed by families for trial.
Iran Executes Individuals Accused of Spying for the US and Israel
Iran has carried out multiple executions in recent days of people linked to the protests or opposition groups, including members of the banned People’s Mujahedin (MEK).
On Saturday, April 4, the authorities executed two members of the MEK after four other convicted members of the group were put to death earlier in the week.
