The Kenyan High Commission in Pretoria has issued an advisory to Kenyan nationals living in South Africa.
Advisory comes amid concerns about public unrest and isolated security incidents that have disrupted normal activities, especially foreign nationals.
The commission has emphasized that Kenyans should exercise caution, avoid high-risk areas, and closely follow updates from local authorities to ensure their safety during the ongoing situation.
Recently, there have been isolated incidents of xenophobic violence and intimidation, with foreign nationals and migrant-owned businesses reportedly affected in certain regions.
These developments have prompted several African countries, including Nigeria and Ghana, to issue safety advisories for their citizens in South Africa.
Advisory Issued Amid Reported Unrest
According to the Kenya High Commission in Pretoria, Kenyan nationals should exercise caution and remain vigilant amid recent demonstrations.

The mission emphasized that, while the situation is not nationwide, isolated incidents linked to protests pose potential risks that require awareness.
“The Kenya High Commission in Pretoria wishes to advise all Kenyan nationals residing in the Republic of South Africa to exercise caution and remain vigilant in light of recent demonstrations and isolated incidents reported in some parts of the Republic of South Africa affecting foreign nationals,” read the notice.
Kenyan citizens in South Africa have been advised to avoid areas where protests or demonstrations are taking place.
The High Commission stressed the importance of minimizing exposure to potential risks associated with large public gatherings, which can escalate unexpectedly.
Kenyans have also been urged to remain attentive to instructions from local authorities and to exercise general caution in public spaces
Individuals are further advised to maintain awareness of their surroundings and avoid unnecessary movement in high-risk areas.
As part of the safety measures, Kenyan nationals are required to always carry valid identification documents and other relevant paperwork.
“Kenyan nationals are urged to avoid, as far as possible, areas where protests or demonstrations may be taking place, and to remain attentive to guidance issued by local authorities. They are further encouraged to carry valid identification and relevant documentation at all times,” read part of the statement.
Citizens were also reminded to comply fully with South African laws and regulations, particularly during periods of public demonstrations where security enforcement may be heightened.

Emergency Response and Diplomatic Support
In the event of any incident, Kenyan nationals have been instructed to report to the South African Police Service immediately and to notify the Kenya High Commission for assistance.
The High Commission emphasized that timely reporting of incidents will help ensure appropriate response and support for affected citizens.
