Kenya Ports Authority (KPA) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Captain William Ruto was involved in an accident on Friday, April 3, while traveling with his family.
KPA in a statement on Saturday, April 4,announced that Ruto’s daughter had passed away following the accident.
“We are deeply saddened to announce that our Chief Executive Officer, Capt. William K. Ruto, was involved in a tragic road accident yesterday evening while traveling with his family. Regrettably, his daughter did not survive the accident,” read the notice in part.
“We extend our thoughts and deepest condolences to Capt. Ruto and his family during this time of immense grief.

KPA CEO Captain William Ruto Involved in Road Accident, Daughter Dies
KPA noted that Capt. Ruto who has been the head of the KPA since 2023 and the rest of his family are currently in stable condition and under close medical supervision.
At the same time, the authority further noted that it is working closely with relevant agencies to establish the circumstances surrounding the accident, adding that more details will be shared as they become available.
KPA also called on the public and the media to respect the family’s privacy during this difficult time.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Shariff Nassir and Taita Taveta Governor Andrew Mwadime for their swift assistance and support following the accident,” the authority added.
Friday Accident Claims 10 Lives
The news follows confirmation of ten fatalities after a road accident on Friday at the Kariandusi area near Gilgil on the Naivasha–Nakuru highway.
The accident occurred at around 9:30 p.m. It involved a 10-seater matatu belonging to Leakana Sacco, heading from Naivasha to Nakuru.
According to police reports, the matatu rammed a stalled trailer on the busy highway, under circumstances still under investigation.

In a separate incident, the Kenya Red Cross Society reported another accident at around 5:20 a.m.
This incident occurred at the Tunnel area in Fort Tenan, Kericho County. It involved two buses and two lorries carrying a total of 66 passengers.
In that incident, 20 casualties were reported, none fatal. Five people sustained serious injuries, with two referred to higher-level facilities, while others, including six children, are receiving treatment at Fort Tenan Sub-County Hospital.
