Ena Coach CEO Richard Mogire has revealed that two people, a female adult and a minor, died in an accident involving one of the company’s buses and a trailer on the night of Saturday, August 9, 2025, along the Narok–Mai Mahiu Highway.
In a statement dated Sunday, August 10, 2025, the CEO extended his condolences to the families of those who lost their lives.
“Our hearts go out to the families and friends who have lost loved ones in this tragedy. We extend our deepest condolences and stand with you in this time of grief. To those injured, we offer our sincere wishes for a swift and complete recovery,” said Mogire.
According to the CEO, the bus, registration number KDE 279Q, was scheduled for the Nairobi–Kehancha route and had departed Nairobi at approximately 8 p.m., carrying 47 passengers and three crew members.
He reported that while descending the escarpment near the historic Catholic Church, a truck lost its brakes and struck two vehicles before hitting the bus from the rear. The impact caused the bus to veer off the road and overturn.
Earlier, an Ena Coach bus traveling from Nairobi to Kehancha, Migori County, was involved in a fatal accident on the Narok-Mai Mahiu Highway.
The incident occurred around 11:00 PM when the bus was struck from behind by a trailer whose brakes reportedly failed. Several other vehicles were also impacted by the truck as it lost control on the steep section of the Mai Mahiu climb.
Several passengers were feared dead. Many more had sustained injuries and were rushed to Naivasha Sub-County Hospital for treatment. Traffic police officers rushed to the scene of the accident to initiate rescue efforts. Motorists were advised to use alternative routes where possible.
This incident follows a tragic period where 50 deaths were recorded within 72 hours. On August 8, 2025, 26 people died in a road accident at the Coptic Roundabout on the Kisumu-Kakamega Highway in Kisumu.
Ena Coach Involved in a Fatal Accident
This tragedy involved a school bus from AIC Naki High School carrying 54 to 61 mourners returning from a funeral in Nyahera. The bus overturned after the driver reportedly lost control, possibly due to high speed or poor road design.
Additionally, on August 7, 2025, nine people were killed near Morendat Farm in Naivasha when a Kenya Pipeline Company bus collided with a train. This accident, which occurred just meters from the Nairobi-Nakuru Highway, resulted in the deaths and left many others injured. The victims were reportedly workers returning home.

On August 9, 2025, another tragic road accident occurred at Korompoi, near Kitengela, along the Nairobi-Namanga Highway in Kajiado County, claiming eight lives.
50 Lives Lost in the Last 72 Hours
The head-on collision involved a 14-seater Nailepu Sacco matatu traveling toward Kitengela and a lorry heading toward Isinya. Seven passengers, including four women and three men, died at the scene, and the matatu driver later succumbed to injuries in the hospital.
Furthermore, on August 7, 2025, an AMREF Flying Doctors Cessna Citation XLS (registration 5Y-FDM) crashed in Mwihoko, Githurai 45, Kiambu County, shortly after takeoff from Wilson Airport at 2:17 PM, en route to Hargeisa, Somalia.

The crash resulted in the deaths of six people: four AMREF personnel (two doctors and two nurses) and two civilians on the ground. At least two others were injured and hospitalized. The aircraft lost radar and radio contact three minutes after takeoff, crashing into a residential area, damaging homes, and sparking a fire.
