The Ministry of Interior and National Administration has responded to growing public concern about the unavailability of A- and B-series passports on the eCitizen portal.
In a spot check on February 3, 2026, The Kenya Times confirmed that the eCitizen passport application portal only allowed applications for the 66-page Ordinary “C” Series passport booklet, excluding the 50-page booklet option for first-time applicants.

In the statement, the Ministry acknowledged that some passport applicants have raised concerns about the unavailability of A- and B-series booklets on the eCitizen platform.

Kenyans have been assured that the ministry is taking measures to resolve the issues and ensure all passports are processed on time.
“The Ministry has put in place measures to ensure that all passport applications are processed promptly without causing any inconvenience to the applicants. We reaffirm our commitment to facilitate travel in line with our mandate as we make efforts to ensure that all series are available. We appreciate your patience as we work on resolving the issue,” read the statement.
Currently, the portal only allows issuance of the 50-page passport (50 pages of the Ordinary “B” Series) for special cases, including mutilated passports (intentionally damaged) and lost passports.
Sources reveal that the measure is reportedly intended to clear existing stocks of 66-page passports.
“The 50-page passports are still valid, but the government is prioritizing issuance of the 66-page booklets to manage inventory and streamline the passport application process,” a source told The Kenya Times.
The government earlier in July revoked the 34-page passport in July last year, citing a shortage of the booklets.
