Celebrated radio presenter Mwende Macharia has made a huge comeback on the airwaves after joining Radio Jambo, Kenya’s leading radio station. The media sensation has already locked fans across the country, sending the competition back to the drawing board.
With nearly 15 years of experience, Mwende has risen from being a little-known media professional to enjoying a fanatical following across the country.
Born in Ukunda, Kwale County, Mwende has not only become a household name in Kenya but also a much sought-after talent.
She attended Mwakigwena Primary School and joined Matuga Girls High School for her secondary education, where she developed an interest in communication and public speaking – little did she know that it would become the foundation for her enviable radio career.
Determined to pursue a career in media, Mwende completed a diploma in Journalism at the Patana Institute in Majengo, Mombasa. She later enrolled at Daystar University to pursue a degree in Electronic Media.
Mwende Macharia Career Background
She began her journalism career as an intern at Baraka FM in Mombasa in 2007, where she honed her radio production and presentation skills.

In 2009, Mwende transitioned to Sheikh FM, which later became Kaya FM, further building her brand and gaining more experience in broadcasting.
Her breakthrough or ‘nyota’ came when she moved to Radio Maisha, officially joining the coveted club of radio queens in Kenya.
At Radio Maisha, she was the host of the popular show “Konnect,” which aired on weekdays afternoons.
As a host of Konnect on Radio Maisha, Mwende Macharia made the program the second-most popular radio show in Kenya.
Mwende’s bold, relatable, and high-energy delivery earned her a massive following and the nickname “Queen of the Airwaves.”
On July 31, 2024, after 14 years at Radio Maisha, Mwende announced her departure from the station.
However , Mwende’s media break was short-lived after she joined Radio Jambo in October 2025.
At Radio Jambo, she hosts “Mwende Macharia Night,” where she is literally giving her nocturnal fans sleepless nights.

Beyond radio, Mwende is a renowned MC and event host, known for her electrifying stage presence and professionalism.
In 2015, she founded the Champs Foundation as a passionate advocate for youth empowerment and personal development.
Mwende has also worked with popular brands, integrating her personal brand with major corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Through the Champs Foundation, she engages young people in conversations about purpose, self-esteem, and growth.
Mwende also established a mentorship program that offers three-month internships to aspiring media professionals and shares her decade-plus of industry experience.
After leaving Radio Maisha, Mwende transitioned to digital media, launching a YouTube talk show dubbed Fyucha in October 2024.
During her time at Radio Maisha, the station won the People’s Choice Favourite Radio Station award at the Kuza Broadcasting Awards for five consecutive years.
