KeNHA Announces Closure of Major Nairobi Road for 42 Days

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced the extension of the temporary closure of a section of the Bomas–Kiserian (B19) Road due to ongoing roadworks.

In a public notice issued on October 16, 2025, the agency informed motorists and the general public that the road section between Brookhouse/Galleria (Km 0+500) and Catholic University of Eastern Africa junction (Km 1+000) will remain closed.

KeNHA stated that the closure is necessitated by the construction of two box culverts along the affected stretch.

The roadworks are scheduled to take place from Monday, October 20, 2025, and are expected to be completed by Monday, December 1, 2025.

KeNHA Announces Closure of Bomas–Kiserian Road

To ease traffic congestion and provide alternative routes for motorists, KeNHA has advised drivers to use the following diversions:

• Lang’ata Road – Lang’ata South Road – Kiboko Road – Banda Lane – Magadi Road
• Lang’ata Road – Lang’ata South Road – Kiboko Road – Mukoma Road – Magadi Road (near Shell Petrol Station)

Motorists are urged to adhere to the traffic diversion plan and observe all project road signs.

KeNHA also appealed to road users to cooperate with police officers and traffic marshals who will be on-site to manage the flow of vehicles and ensure safety.

Earlier, the Authority issued a public notice on October 13, 2025, announcing the temporary closure of service lanes on the Thika Superhighway (A2) at Kihunguro.

The disruption, affecting traffic on both the Nairobi-bound and Thika-bound service lanes, will begin on Monday, October 20, 2025, and continue until Saturday, December 20, 2025.

Closure of a Section of Thika Road 

In the notice signed by Acting Director General Luka Kimeli, KeNHA explained that the Kihunguro footbridge is being built to address long-standing concerns about pedestrian safety and traffic flow in the busy section of the superhighway.

“This is to allow for construction works of the Kihunguro footbridge column bases and stub columns at the section. We are urging road users to be patient and cooperate with traffic marshals on site,” said the Acting Director General.

Kihunguro, situated between Juja and Ruiru, has experienced significant pedestrian movement over the years, with numerous incidents involving vehicles and pedestrians.

KeNHA stressed that the temporary inconvenience will ultimately lead to lasting benefits for both motorists and pedestrians.

KeNHA is responsible for all aspects of national trunk roads, ensuring they are safe, efficient, and well-maintained. 

The authority’s mandate specifically applies to National Trunk Roads (NTRs), which are classified as Classes S, A, and B roads.

KeNHA implements road policies and enforces regulations, including those related to axle load control, to ensure the integrity and safety of the road network.
