Magistrates and judges have elected a new president in an election held on Saturday, October 18, 2025. Justice Stephen Radido’s tenure as the President of the Kenya Magistrates and Judges Association (KMJA) has come to an end, with Justice Peter Mulwa elected as the new president.
Justice Peter Mulwa was elected unopposed and took the oath of office to serve as president for a two-year term.
Justice Peter Mulwa was born in Machakos County. He joined the Judicial Service as a District Magistrate II (Professional) in 2001.
He was appointed Judge of the High Court in 2022 and has served at both the Kiambu and Milimani High Courts.
Peter Mulwa Elected New KMJA President
Justice Mulwa holds a master’s degree in public administration from the University of Nairobi (UoN), a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the same university, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law. He was admitted to the Bar in 1998.
He has also served as Registrar of Subordinate Courts and as a Magistrate in various court stations across the country.
The outgoing president, Justice Stephen Radido, has served the association for two years, having been elected on December 16, 2023.

He currently serves as a Judge of the Employment and Labour Relations Court (ELRC) in Kisumu.
Justice Radido was appointed Judge of the ELRC in July 2012 and has served in Mombasa, Nakuru, Nairobi, and is currently stationed in Kisumu.
Before joining the Judiciary, he worked with the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (then known as the Kenya Anti-Corruption Authority) as a Senior Attorney/Investigator, joining the institution in 1999.
He holds a master’s degree in Fundamental Human Rights from the University of South Africa and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Nairobi.
Justice Radido also received training from the World Bank/StAR Initiative in asset recovery and attended a course in Economics of Corruption at the University of Passau, Germany.
Another election conducted by the association was for the KMJA female representative in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Other KMJA Elections
Everlyne Olwande was re-elected by the KMJA as its female representative to the JSC. Commissioners serve a five-year term, renewable once, and she will now be serving her second term.
Olwande joined the Commission on January 15, 2021, after being elected by the KMJA pursuant to Article 171(2)(d) of the Constitution.
She currently serves as the Chairperson of the Finance, Planning & Administration Committee, and is also a member of the Human Resource Management Committee and the Committee on Administration of Justice.

Olwande is a Chief Magistrate, having been appointed in December 2020. She previously served as Senior Principal Magistrate, Principal Magistrate, Senior Resident Magistrate, and Resident Magistrate. Before joining the Commission, she worked as an Associate at J.W. Kagwe & Co. Advocates.
She holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law, a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from South Gujarat University, and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mohanlal Sukhadia University.
