President William Ruto is set to visit Kisii and Nyamira Counties to launch several projects and tour Kuria in Migori county
State House Spokesperson, Hussein Mohamed reported that the president will commission upgrading of 33.3 km Gekano-Rigoma-Amabuko , Nyabohanse –kumumwamu, Nyaburu-Oboke-Ragwe roads and Commission Kegati Water project.
While addressing the media at Kisii Depot Cereals and Produce Board, Hussein stated that the head of state will meet with leaders in the regions.
The state house spokesperson also reported that farmers in Kisii and Nyamira counties have received subsidized fertilizer through the government’s subsidy program to boost agricultural production and foster food security.
“The subsidy program is meant to cushion farmers against the high cost of fertilizer, increase agricultural production, and address food insecurity” he said.

Moreover, Hussein said the farmers can get fertilizer at Ksh. 3,500 per bag up from Ksh 7,500.
He added that the government has measures put in place to keep off brokers and cartels to ensure farmers get the fertilizer they deserve.
Nonetheless, the spokesperson stated that Kisii county which has 134,528 farmers has received 7,800 bags of 50 kg fertilizer whereas Nyamira county having 80,170 farmers has received 2,780 bags of fertilizer.
He also noted that farmers can now access the fertilizer digitally.
“Digitization is important for efficiency, enhances traceability, accountability and transparency in fertilizer distribution” Hussein said.
Hussein further reported that farmers can now access fertilizer at Kenya national trading corporation and cereal depots.
